Position Description & Requirements


The role of the Electrical Engineer is to improve the equipment operations.  This role will require the person to work with a range input and outputs, check sensors and program plc’s to improve the machines functions.

  • Create and develop programs that will support process improvements to safely meet Cardinal Operations.
  • Communicate with Operations & Maintenance and other supporting departments. Where a fault is identified, activate a workaround or make temporary modifications to PLC code to allow the operation to continue.
  • Work with the Automation Control team to diagnose and deploy the required code fixes.
  • Provide front line issues investigation of live production control systems (hardware and software) including the use of relevant diagnostic tools such as Profibus / Can Bus networks, Bar Code Readers.
  • Analyze data and find solutions to improve performance.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures. 

Education and/or Work Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
    • Computer Engineering combined with industrial experience may substitute for the Electrical Engineering degree.
    • Mechatronics Engineering degree with industrial experience may substitute for Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Good technical & experienced hands-on ability relating to automation hardware and software.
  • Experience with industrial PLC systems, HMI systems or distributed control systems, or relevant laboratory education A good understanding of DC motor controls.
  • Understanding of Control System Communication Protocols.
  • Good technical ability relating to automation hardware and software.
  • Sound analytical skills with an eye for detail; good problem-solving ability and a practical approach.
  • Good computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.

Available Shifts & Pay


  • 1st Shift 
  • Electrical Engineer pay is based on experience.
